Hazelnut Chocolate Maca Mousse

Chocolate mousse has been a long time favourite dessert of mine, and this healthy take on the traditional variety does not disappoint! It is rich and decadent, quick and easy to make, and most importantly is packed full of nutritional benefits. It also combines my absolute favourite flavour combination...chocolate and hazelnuts!

Although using avocado in a chocolate mousse recipe may seem surprising at first, it makes for a fantastic base as once blended with the other ingredients (particularly the cacao) you cannot detect its presence from a taste perspective. Avocados are a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, as well as vitamins E, K and A. They are also an excellent source of potassium, and are high in fibre. The addition of hazelnuts pairs perfectly with the cacao, and provides nutritional benefits including monounsaturated fatty acids, dietary fibre, folate, and vitamin E.

The superfood included in this recipe is Organic Burst Maca, which has a delicious vanilla nutty taste, working well with the flavours of this mousse. Maca powder contains a variety of minerals including calcium, magnesium, silica, and zinc, and is known to increase body energy and stamina, support the hormonal system, and boost sexual health.

The Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 3):

  • 2 avocados
  • 3/4 cup hazelnut milk
  • 1/3 cup hazelnut butter
  • 1/2 cup cacao powder
  • 4 pitted medjool dates
  • 2 tablespoons of brown rice syrup/maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of Organic Burst Maca
  • raw chopped hazelnuts to garnish


Place all ingredients (except raw hazelnuts) in a food processor and blend for two minutes until smooth.

Divide mousse into serving glasses and chill for half an hour.

Garnish with raw hazelnuts.
